Tomato One - Free Focus Timer App Reviews

69 Customer Reviews:

Pomodoro One is my favorite pomodoro technique app for Mac. It keeps me and my ADHD from hyper-focusing. KEY FEATURES: Customizable “Pomodoro time”, "Break time”, and "Long break time” means that you can set the minutes yourself instead of being forced to use the standard 25 minutes pomodoro time with 5 minute break times. “Long break each” (amount of pomodoros completed before long break) is also customizable. I set mine for 5 pomodoros before a 15 minute long break. Being able to choose the amount of time for pomodoros and breaks is a feature that allows me to become better at focusing on projects. 25 minute pomodoro minutes is great when starting out, however, after a few weeks, I could focus longer than 25 minutes, and getting an alarm after 25 minutes ended up being a distraction that knocked me off track. My perfect pomodoro time is 40 minutes, with 5 minute break every 5 pomodoros. Everyone will have their own pomodoro sweet spot and Pomodoro One allows you to customize minutes to find that sweet spot. SUPER AWESOME OPTION FEATURE: “Interupt me when Pomodor ends” option. When a pomodoro ends, the window pops up to the foreground in front of your other windows. It can be a tad bit annoying, but it gets you to take notice and take a break. With this feature off, I will hear the alarm and ignore it, and keep working… then I get sluggish. The “interupt” feature reminds me to take a break, and those breaks keep my mind fresh. FEATURES I’D LOVE TO SEE (as of March 7, 2015) 1) A “keep window on top” option. That way, the Pomodoro One window would stay in the forefront on my desktop instead of getting hidden behind other open windows. The menu bar timer is nice but I need something more “in my face”. 2) Scalable window. The Pomodoro window is a nice size, but it would be great to be able to scale it larger or smaller. Sometimes I like a little window while working on my iMac, but a larger, almost full screen size window, would be great for when I’m working on creative ideas while sitting at my comfy chair about 10 ft away from my iMac. OVERALL: I this app is the best Pomodoro app for Mac that I’ve used. Great for people with ADHD. SQUIRREL!!!

I downloaded this version specifically because I wanted the pause button. I can’t find it despite the fact that I see the other new features for this version. I don’t see the option to pause in the menu either. Also, there’s no “about” option in the menu so I can’t tell if I have the right version (other than the existence of the new features). One more star if I can get the pause to work.

Not a bad app. Works as intended. A few suggestiongs. Please add the Pause buttong to the actual UI instead of just the menu bar. Secondly, can you add the option to skip forward to a break time? Or start on a break time. Sometimes I can finish a section a few minutes before a break and it would be nice to be able to skip the timer up to the break. Thanks. Great app.

Finally a good app based on Pomodoro method for free with non-intrusive ads. Does all the useful features what we expect for, even timing in the top bar. Many thanks !

You can set the time by the minute (not an incrementally numbered dropdown menu like others) and you can change the time while it is in session. This update has short and long breaks (the current photos don’t show this feature). Also, you can choose whether or not to automatically continue, as well as whether or not to be interupted by being shown the app when time is up. One minor issue I found with the latest update is a strange “selection” that happens on the start/stop button (it looks almost as if the icon is text that has been selected), but it hasn’t caused any problems other that looking strange. The small CPU usage from this app is ideal. I can leave the timer running all day without any trouble, which is a relief compared to a majority of the dozen or so timers I’ve used in the past, both free and paid. A note to the developer: took me a long time to find this app because it doesn’t show up in search results for "interval timer”, like the other pomodoro timers do; however, that term does only have about half the search volume as “pomodoro timer". Before I could find the app I had to learn what “pomodoro” was, because of seeing other apps with the name, and then I had to directly search for competitors to the apps I saw available. It does show up when seaching for “timer” but the light coloring (which i enjoy… I personally love the design) seems to have made it easy for my eyes to skip over when scanning the search results, but that may just have been my experience.

I tried quite a few and this one was the best. However, I did a test for one minute just to see if I liked the way it worked and now I can’t remove the one minute task completed for today. I’d like to reset the completed tasks for a day to zero and I don’t see anyway for doing that?? Thank you very much.

I have been using this, and it’s simply the best. The interface is clean and simple, and the ads are non-intrusive. This is the first time I have used the Pomodoro method, and I am loving it. I removed the ads simply because this app is so good. I only have one suggestion. The pause button should be inside the application window in addition to in the top menu bar. I feel this would help people who are confused about it. But overall an amazing piece of software. Keep it up.

Love it. Espcially the ability to auto start the next pomodoro! Clean interface, beautiful design, and it never fails. Also BEST FEATURE is the auto start next pomodoro. Most others require you to start each pomodoro manually which is unsustainable as I will forget to start the next one.

Nice app. Would be great if you add: 1) keyboard shortcuts for starting pomodoro 2) support for dark menu bar 3) different sounds for finishing pomodoro and a break 4) calendar integration or other way of logging pomodoros

Great app. Simple to use, and does exactly what I need. However, like others have been saying, it would be nice if the pause button were on the main interface. Going to the menubar to pause is a pain. Also, if I were to add something to my wishlist would be universal key bindings so I could start, stop, pause, and resume the timer with keystrokes. Keep up the good work.

Love the app - its clean and simple, which helps me stay focused. I actually like that the pause button is in the menu bar - it keeps me on track and forces me to take only the amount of time I’m allotted for a break.

Effective and subtle

Does its job, does not seem to use too much memory. The bell ring is subtle and characteristic.

Very clear, pleasant and super easy to use. Work type labels are necessary, though. I am a freelancer and I like to track how much time I spend on various tasks. Otherwise A++

Perfect

This was exactly what I was looking for to use the pomodoro method with research, reading, and tasks on my computer.

Needs hotkeys!

Works great but needs the capability to stop/pause/play with hotkeys or at least inside the application window. They are in the app menu instead
